Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Member of the National Assembly Natasha Daultana said this week that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) was becoming increasingly isolated politically following the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, alleging that the electoral process had been marred by widespread rigging and demanding accountability over the outcome.
In an interview, Daultana said the people had witnessed what she described as “massive rigging” during the Azad Jammu Kashmir elections, arguing that the credibility of the electoral process had been seriously undermined.
She maintained that the developments surrounding the elections had raised significant concerns that required transparent explanations, adding that the public deserved clear answers regarding the conduct of the polls.
“The PML-N stands increasingly isolated. The people have witnessed the massive rigging in the AJK elections, and serious questions demand answers,” Daultana said.
The PPP leader warned that her party would now adopt a more assertive political stance toward the ruling coalition, saying the time had come for the PML-N to be held accountable for its actions.
Daultana said the PPP had exercised restraint and played a constructive role in ensuring political and parliamentary stability despite being in the opposition.
She said the party had repeatedly extended cooperation to the government on important parliamentary matters, including supporting federal budgets, facilitating the passage of legislation and helping maintain quorum in the National Assembly whenever required.
“Now, the PPP will hold the PML-N accountable, not just with words. For too long, the PPP has helped sustain the government by supporting its budgets, passing its legislation, and helping ensure quorum in the National Assembly,” she said.
Daultana’s remarks signal a potentially tougher approach by the PPP towards the government at a time when political tensions have intensified following the AJK elections.
