Karolina Pliskova adds Sascha Bajin to her team for 2021
A few weeks removed from announcing she parted ways with coach Dani Vallverdu, Karolina Pliskova has added Sascha Bajin to her team for 2021.
Pliskova unveiled the news earlier this week on social media with a socially distanced photo that included Bajin and her fitness coach Azuz Simcich.
Bajin was the WTA Coach of the Year in 2018 after coaching Naomi Osaka to the 2018 US Open title. They split not long after she won the 2019 Australian Open. Before Osaka, he was the longtime hitting partner of Serena Williams. The 36-year-old has also worked with Kristina Mladenovic in 2019 and Dayana Yastremska in 2020.
Pliskova hired Vallverdu for the 2020 season, winning the crown in Brisbane and reaching the final of Rome. In her statement on the mutual split, the 28-year-old Czech cited time commitment issues.
The former No. 1 lost in the third round of the Australian Open and the second rounds of the US Open and Roland Garros. She would finish the season ranked No. 6.
