Jakarta: Pakistan is emerging as an important player in the rapidly growing global halal economy, with Ambassador Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri this week highlighting the country’s vast potential for trade, investment, innovation and strategic partnerships during a panel discussion at the Halal Expo Indonesia.
Addressing policymakers, business leaders, investors and industry experts, the Pakistani envoy said the global halal economy—valued at more than $7 trillion—offers enormous opportunities for economic cooperation, cross-border investment and sustainable business growth.
Ambassador Zahid emphasised that Pakistan is steadily establishing itself as an emerging hub within the global halal ecosystem, supported by its strong agricultural base, expanding manufacturing sector, internationally recognised halal products and strategic geographical location linking South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
He noted that Pakistan possesses significant untapped potential across a broad range of halal industries, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, healthcare products, textiles, leather goods, sports equipment and Islamic finance.
The ambassador stressed that closer international collaboration is essential to unlocking the full potential of the halal economy, saying stronger partnerships can help improve market access, promote innovation, strengthen supply chains and encourage greater investment among Muslim-majority countries and global trading partners.
He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment aimed at attracting foreign investment while expanding exports of value-added halal products to international markets.
Ambassador Chaudhri also underlined the importance of harmonising halal standards and certification systems to facilitate smoother international trade and enhance consumer confidence, enabling businesses to compete more effectively in the global marketplace.
He observed that growing consumer demand for halal-certified products extends well beyond Muslim-majority countries, making the halal economy one of the fastest-growing segments of international commerce.
The envoy said Pakistan is well positioned to capitalise on this expanding market through innovation, quality manufacturing and strategic partnerships with regional and international stakeholders.
His participation at the Halal Expo Indonesia reflected Pakistan’s broader economic diplomacy focused on strengthening trade ties, attracting investment and promoting the country’s industrial capabilities in high-growth sectors.
The expo brought together government representatives, diplomats, investors and businesses from across the Developing Eight (D-8) member countries and other international markets to explore new opportunities in halal trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
Ambassador Chaudhri reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with international partners to build a more integrated global halal ecosystem, expressing confidence that enhanced collaboration would generate new opportunities for businesses, strengthen economic connectivity and contribute to sustainable growth across the halal industry.
