Umar Rehman Malik pays glowing tribute to Begum Nusrat Bhutto

Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Umar Rehman Malik this week paid glowing tribute to Madar-e-Jamhuriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto.

“On Madar-e-Jamhuriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s birth anniversary, we honour her immense sacrifice. She lost her husband Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and sons Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Shahnawaz Bhutto, as well as her daughter Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, all for the sake of our country, nation, and democracy,” he said in a statement.

Umar Rehman Malik added: “The struggle and courage of Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed shine as beacons for women all over the world.”
Begum Nusrat Bhutto (March 23, 1929 – October 23, 2011) was an Iranian-Pakistani who was the former First Lady of Pakistan and widow of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

She became her husband’s successor as the chairperson of the PPP from 1979 to 1983. The couple had four children: PPP chairperson and the first and only female Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto (1953-2007), Murtaza Bhutto (1954-1996), Sanam Bhutto (born 1957) and Shahnawaz Bhutto (1958-1985).
