Islamabad: Pakistan has reaffirmed its enduring commitment to multilateralism and its constructive role in promoting regional and international peace and stability, particularly amid continuing challenges in West Asia.
Speaking at Pakistan Day celebrations held at the United Nations Headquarters, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Pakistanis serving across the UN Secretariat, as well as its specialised agencies, funds and programmes, were making valuable contributions to advancing the work of the United Nations.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Pakistan UN Club, particularly its President, Ambassador (Retd) Qazi Shaukat Fareed, and Secretary General Ghulam Ghous, for inviting him to attend the Pakistan Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the principles of multilateralism and its constructive contribution towards efforts aimed at strengthening peace and stability at the regional and international levels.
He particularly underlined Pakistan’s perspective and role in promoting peace and stability in West Asia, a region facing persistent security and political challenges.
The Ambassador also highlighted Pakistan’s active contribution to the work of the UN Security Council, stressing the country’s efforts to advance initiatives aimed at the peaceful settlement of disputes.
He said Pakistan remained committed to working through multilateral institutions and supporting diplomatic and peaceful approaches to resolving conflicts.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar noted that the contributions of Pakistani professionals serving within the UN system reflected the country’s continuing engagement with the organisation and its objectives.
The Pakistan Day event at UN Headquarters brought together members of the Pakistani community serving within the United Nations system and provided an opportunity to reaffirm Pakistan’s role and commitment to international cooperation, multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
