First successful transit of dry fruits from China to Afghanistan through Pakistan under TIR agreement celebrated

Gilgit: A celebratory function was held here to mark the first successful transit of the shipment of dry fruits from China to Afghanistan through Pakistan under the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) agreement.

The ceremony, held at Sost area, saw the presence of important dignitaries, including the Director of Transit Trade Peshawar, the Deputy Commissioner of Hunza, and the Collector of Customs in Gilgit-Baltistan. On the occasion, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Wani said: “Today marks a significant occasion as we commemorate the inaugural consignment’s journey from China to Afghanistan.“

He added: “This accomplishment highlights the strength of collaboration, diplomacy, and shared progress-driven goals facilitated by the crucial passage through Pakistan under the TIR agreement via the Sost Border.”

He emphasised that the volume of international trade through the Sost Dry Port was consistently rising, coinciding with the commencement of international flights at Skardu.
