Berlin: Germany approved export licences for military equipment and weapons worth approximately €13.9 billion ($15.9 billion) during the first six months of 2026, with Ukraine remaining the largest recipient as Berlin continued its military support for Kyiv.
According to provisional government figures released this week, authorised exports between January and June totalled around €13.87 billion. The package included roughly €9.6 billion in war weapons and about €4.3 billion in other military equipment.
Ukraine accounted for approximately €2.5 billion in approved exports, making it both the biggest overall destination and the leading non-European Union recipient. German authorities said the licences were intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Israel emerged as the sixth-largest destination for German military exports during the period, receiving approvals worth about €799 million. The German government said that more than 60 percent of the approved exports were connected to a major maritime defence programme, while nearly one-fifth related to bilateral defence industrial cooperation benefiting Germany’s armed forces. The remaining approvals covered other categories of military equipment.
Other major recipients of German defence exports during the first half of the year included the United States, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, Estonia and Slovenia.
The latest figures underscore Germany’s continued role as one of Europe’s leading defence exporters while reflecting Berlin’s sustained military assistance to Ukraine alongside broader defence cooperation with allied nations.
