Islamabad: The diplomatic enclave of the federal capital was illuminated last night as the United States Mission in Pakistan hosted a historic “Freedom 250” gala. The grand reception marked two and a half centuries of American democratic history while celebrating the enduring, nearly 80-year-old bilateral relationship between Washington and Islamabad.
The landmark event brought together a distinguished gathering from across Pakistani public life, including senior government functionaries, political leaders, corporate executives, civil society advocates, academics, and prominent cultural icons.
Reaffirming a Time-Tested Alliance
Delivering her keynote address, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker emphasized that “Freedom 250” is not only a monumental milestone in American history but also a testament to the shared values of liberty and mutual respect that bind the two nations together.
“Tonight, we celebrate 250 years of American freedom, nearly 80 years of friendship between our two peoples, and everything we are going to build together in the years ahead,” Chargé Baker stated. “The best is not behind us. It is in front of us, and we are going to get there together.”
The evening masterfully blended state protocol with vibrant artistic collaboration:
The event commenced with a presentation of Colors by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, followed by the national anthems of both nations.
The audience enjoyed dynamic performances by the U.S. Air Force Central Command Band alongside Pakistani pop sensation Bilal Saeed.
The celebration culminated in a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the Islamabad sky, symbolizing the bright future both nations aim to cultivate.
The reception forms part of a year-long global series of events marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, launched under the national banner of “A New Era of American Greatness.”
