Words seem inadequate to express loss of Jiang Zemin, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri

Canberra: Pakistani High Commissioner in Australia Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri this week recorded his heartfelt condolences at the Embassy of China in Canberra on the passing away of former President Jiang Zemin.

“Recorded our heartfelt condolences at the Embassy of China in Canberra on the passing away of former President Jiang Zemin – a true friend of President Zemin was a great statesman who presided over phenomenal rise of China at the turn of 21st century,” the envoy tweeted.

Recently, China’s former leader Jiang Zemin died at 96. Jiang Zemin presided over a time when China opened up on a vast scale and saw high-speed growth.

State media outlets, including the Global Times and the Xinhua news agency, turned their websites black and white in tribute.

Under his stewardship, a formidable economy was forged and China took its place at the top table of world powers.

He oversaw the peaceful handover of Hong Kong in 1997, and China’s entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001 which intertwined the country with the global economy.
