Islamabad: Qatar Charity (QC) this week distributed prosthetic limbs to 260 people with disabilities in Pakistan, in cooperation with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, and Pakistan Institute of prosthetic and Orthotics (PIPOS).
The artificial limbs were distributed in two phases. Some 200 people benefited from the first phase in the Swat district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, whereas 60 beneficiaries received the limbs during the second phase in the same district.
The artificial limbs, which were provided as part of Qatar Charity’s social welfare efforts in Pakistan, aim to help those with disabilities, who have lost parts of their bodies due to various reasons, move easily.
In this context, Mr. Lal Badshah, regional director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, thanked Qatar Charity for helping the most vulnerable sections of the Pakistani society, indicating that the project was implemented professionally.
For his part, Dr. Javed Ghani, Head of PIPOS, appreciated the support from the benefactors in Qatar, noting that technically trained medical staff supervised the process of manufacturing the artificial limbs according to the size and needs of the people with disabilities.
“It is really a big change for me. I am now living as normal person. I started my studies again. I am very thankful to the philanthropists in Qatar for funding of my artificial limb,” said a 9th grade student Amir Khan, who lost his one leg in a road accident, which had caused the discontinuation of his study.
