Umar Rehman Malik gives credit to Senator Rehman Malik for transgender rights

Islamabad: Financial expert Umar Rehman Malik this week gave credit to his late father, Senator Rehman Malik, for promoting transgender rights.
“Senator Rehman Malik, as Interior Minister ensured protection of transgender rights by adding separate gender section in their CNICs resolving complications related to parentage and family tree,” he recalled.
Umar Rehman Malik welcomed the government of Pakistan’s decision to include transgenders in the Benazir Kafalat programme for the first time.
He said all his life Senator Rehman Malik raised voice for the downtrodden and weak people.
“The government’s decision is a welcome step and a tribute to Senator Rehman Malik who gave identity to the transgenders,” he told Covert.
Earlier, the Board of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) under the leadership of the Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Shazia Marri announced to include transgenders in the Benazir Kafalat programme for the first time.
“Transgenders are also a part of the society like us and it is the duty of the government to take care of them,” Shazia Marri said.
She said that transgenders had to first update their gender in the CNIC from NADRA in order to be eligible for this program.
The transgenders after updating their CNIC from NADRA can register themselves in BISP Tehsil Offices, she said.
On successful registration, the applicant transgender will get a payment message from 8171 number and will get Rs. 7000 per quarter.
