Dialogue and UN-centered multilateralism vital for global peace: D-8 secretary general

Islamabad: Secretary General of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, this week underscored the urgent need for strengthened multilateral cooperation, warning that threats to international peace, security, and sustainable development have reached unprecedented levels.
In a message issued on the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, Ambassador Mahmood emphasized that the world is facing critical deficits in peace and development frameworks, requiring renewed global commitment and coordinated responses.
He stressed that there is no substitute for sustained dialogue, enhanced mutual understanding, and collective action among nations to build a safer and more stable world, in line with the founding vision of the United Nations.
The D-8 Secretary General called for reaffirming unwavering commitment to the UN Charter, urging states to strictly adhere to its purposes and principles, ensure universal respect for international law, and take concrete steps to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity.
Highlighting the growing complexity of global challenges, Ambassador Mahmood noted that diplomacy and UN-centered multilateralism remain indispensable tools for addressing multifaceted issues and advancing the shared goals of just peace and sustainable development.
He added that a cooperative and inclusive approach is essential to meet the aspirations of nations and peoples worldwide, particularly at a time when global uncertainties continue to intensify.
