Peace destiny of Afghan people: Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo

Kabul: NATO Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo has said that peace was the destiny of the Afghan people.
This week, the envoy and discussed the peace process and the political situation in Afghanistan with Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, the State Minister for Peace.
Naderi later said the meeting was fruitful. “Peace process, security and political situation were discussed. We are great full to NATO for their continuous commitment towards Afghanistan and in particular our security sector,” he said.
The Afghan State Minister for Peace called for an immediate ceasefire and resumption of the peace negotiations.
Afghans hope for a peaceful political settlement as many regional and international partners of the country urge for it and puts pressure on both parties to sit and talk at the negotiating table.
Separately, Ambassador Pontecorvo said OVID-19 was impacting at all levels. “It’s impacting on the level of forces on both sides. It’s impacting the leadership. A number of members of the negotiating team on both sides are reported to have gone down with COVID,” he said.
