Sofia: Bulgaria has formally begun preparations for its presidential election, with the government adopting a decision outlining the organisational and administrative measures required for the October 25, 2026 vote.
The decision, approved at a government meeting on Wednesday, covers preparations for the election of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Under the government plan, the Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation will be responsible for coordinating the organisational and technical preparations for the election. The Interior Minister will oversee activities falling within the remit of the Ministry of the Interior, including those related to ensuring the smooth implementation of the electoral process.
The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works will coordinate the preparation and publication of voter lists, a key step ahead of polling day.
The government has also assigned responsibility for the election of Bulgarian citizens living abroad. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will oversee the organisation and conduct of voting at polling stations outside the country.
The decision marks the formal start of the government’s preparations for the presidential election, bringing together several ministries to ensure that the electoral process is organised across Bulgaria and at overseas polling stations.
The October 25 election will determine Bulgaria’s next President and Vice President, with preparations now moving ahead across the relevant government institutions.
