Senator Sherry Rehman commemorates legacy of Benazir Bhutto at Adab Festival

Karachi: Senator Sherry Rahman, the vice-president of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), this week delivered a stirring tribute to late Benazir Bhutto Shaheed at the Adab Festival in Karachi.

Reflecting on a book written by senior journalist Zahid Hussain called “Face to Face with Benazir”, Senator Rahman talked about the challenges inherent in navigating politics without the guidance of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, remembering the role Bhutto played in shaping the nation’s narrative during tumultuous times.

“Benazir Bhutto’s absence in politics creates an irreplaceable void,” remarked Senator Rahman. “When faced with adversity, we often ponder what course she might have charted in her place.”
The Senator lauded Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s courage in confronting criticism, expressing a deep curiosity about public perception and a relentless commitment to understanding the people’s grievances.

“During her tenure, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto underwent a profound transformation in the eyes of the nation,” continued Senator Rahman. “Her insights and understanding of global politics were truly remarkable.”
Senator Rahman recounted Bhutto’s steadfast devotion to the nation, recalling a poignant moment during the Musharraf era when Bhutto reaffirmed her resolve to restore Pakistan’s flag in Swat, proclaiming, “We will raise Pakistan’s flag in Swat; we will save our nation.”

Furthermore, the Senator highlighted Bhutto’s l role in steering the People’s Party through challenging times and her unequivocal stance on human rights issues, asserting that under her leadership, the party stood as a beacon of freedom, devoid of any political captivity.

“Shaheed Benazir Bhutto sought an end to the politics of vendetta,” remarked Senator Rahman. “Her unwavering spirit and refusal to succumb to pressure remain an inspiration.”
