BUITEMS partners with Chinese universities for disaster prevention research

Quetta: The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has announced a collaboration with Southeast University Nanjing, China, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and the Provincial Disaster Management Agency (PDMA). This partnership aims to foster research and innovation in disaster prevention for large-scale structures.
Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS, unveiled this initiative on Tuesday afternoon (October 17).
He emphasized that this joint effort will harness a broad spectrum of expertise, drawing insights from international experts in the field.
BUITEMS has been chosen to spearhead the establishment of a state-of-the-art “Smart Research Lab on Disaster Prevention for Mega Structures.” Dr. Hafeez pointed out that BUITEMS’ renowned Faculty of Engineering will lead this groundbreaking project. “Their profound expertise and dedication place them in a unique position to contribute significantly to this vital area of research. Additionally, several other faculties within BUITEMS will enhance these research endeavors, making the project truly interdisciplinary,” he stated.
The Vice Chancellor revealed that BUITEMS is among five universities in Pakistan selected to create this distinguished research laboratory. The other four esteemed institutions include the National University of Science & Technology (NUST) Islamabad, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, and NED University Karachi.
