Islamabad: Portugal’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Paulo Guedes Domingues, has underscored the growing strength of bilateral relations, describing the partnership between Portugal and Pakistan as entering “a particularly positive phase” marked by expanding engagement and a shared commitment to deeper cooperation across multiple sectors.
In a recent message, Ambassador Domingues said relations between the two countries were witnessing renewed momentum through increasingly regular high-level contacts and sustained collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The ambassador extended warm greetings to Portuguese citizens living and working abroad, acknowledging their contribution to representing Portugal across the world and strengthening its global presence.
Reflecting on Portugal-Pakistan relations, he said the bilateral partnership had continued to develop steadily in recent years, with meaningful progress recorded in political dialogue, trade and investment, education, cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Domingues particularly highlighted the role of the Pakistani-origin community in Portugal, describing it as a “living bridge” that continues to bring the two nations closer by fostering mutual understanding and strengthening societal links. He said the growing community has become an important pillar of bilateral relations, contributing positively to cultural diversity while reinforcing ties between the two countries.
He also paid tribute to Portugal’s Honorary Consuls in Karachi and Lahore, Fakir S. Ayazuddin and Iftikhar Firoz, acknowledging their dedicated efforts in enhancing engagement with Pakistani institutions, businesses and citizens and promoting stronger economic and cultural cooperation.
Drawing inspiration from Portugal’s rich history, the ambassador referred to the legacy of renowned national poet Luís de Camões, whose literary works symbolize the country’s enduring tradition of exploration, openness and dialogue among civilizations. He said these values continue to guide Portugal’s diplomatic engagement and international partnerships.
