Jane Marriott new UK High Commissioner to Pakistan

Islamabad: In a significant development for Pakistan-UK diplomatic relations, Asad Majeed Khan, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, extended a warm welcome to Jane Marriott OBE, the newly appointed British High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Jane Marriott is set to succeed Christian Turner CMG in the prestigious role of British High Commissioner.

Foreign Secretary expressed his keenness to collaborate closely with Marriott, with a strong commitment to fortifying the Pakistan-UK relationship.

He emphasized a shared focus on addressing pressing global challenges and advancing common interests through constructive cooperation.

Jane Marriott also reciprocated the enthusiasm about her appointment as the next British High Commissioner to Pakistan.

She also acknowledged the deep-rooted connections between Pakistan and the UK, citing their shared heritage, strong people-to-people ties, cooperation on climate-related matters, and the burgeoning trade relationship between the two nations.

The term “Dosti,” an Urdu word translating to “friendship” in English, was mentioned by Jane Marriott to emphasize the enduring friendship between Pakistan and the UK.

In her closing remark, “Aap se jald mulaqat hogi,” also in Urdu, she conveyed her anticipation of meeting and engaging with the people of Pakistan soon.

Further initiating meaningful interactions with various stakeholders in Pakistan to foster stronger ties and promote collaboration for a prosperous future between the two nations.

Jane Marriot is the first female British High Commissioner to Pakistan. She brings a wealth of experience in diplomacy and international affairs to her role as the British High Commissioner.

With an extensive background, including serving as Director of the UK’s Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit, Joint FCDO Director for the Middle East and North Africa, and Ambassador to Sana’a, Yemen, her expertise spans various thematic and regional areas.
