Islamabad: Pakistan and Canada are set to give fresh momentum to their bilateral relationship as Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand arrives in Islamabad today (Monday) for an official visit aimed at broadening cooperation across political, economic and people-centric sectors.
The visit, undertaken at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, marks Anand’s first official trip to Pakistan since assuming office and is expected to provide an important opportunity for both countries to review the current state of bilateral relations while charting a roadmap for enhanced future engagement.
According to the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister Dar and his Canadian counterpart will hold wide-ranging talks covering the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Canada relations. The discussions will focus on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges, while identifying new avenues of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The two foreign ministers are also expected to exchange views on major regional and international developments, reaffirming the importance both countries attach to sustained diplomatic engagement and regular consultations on issues affecting regional peace, global stability and international cooperation.
During her stay in Islamabad, Minister Anand will also meet Pakistan’s top leadership to discuss ways of further strengthening bilateral ties and reinforcing cooperation at the political and institutional levels.
Pakistan and Canada have maintained cordial relations for decades, supported by a dynamic Pakistani diaspora that has played a significant role in fostering stronger cultural, educational and economic linkages between the two countries. The community continues to serve as a vital bridge connecting the peoples of Pakistan and Canada while contributing to closer bilateral understanding.
Officials believe the visit reflects the shared determination of Islamabad and Ottawa to further expand cooperation in diverse sectors and inject renewed momentum into a relationship that continues to evolve through dialogue, mutual respect and growing economic and social engagement.
