‘I’ve never seen that before’: Hilarious blow-up proves Steve Smith is not human
Steve Smith was a man on a mission on day one of the third Test — but he wasn’t just after Pakistan’s bowlers in Lahore.
The Aussie No.4 was called to the crease inside three overs after the early dismissals of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne. It was immediately clear that he was in the zone with a number of glorious cover drives showing his attacking intent.
But most telling of his aggressive mindset was a moment in the 11th over when he was angered over the use of the camera rover on the sidelines.
The rover began to move as the ball was being delivered, which wouldn’t normally be an issue with it stationed at deep mid-wicket, well wide of being behind the bowler.
But Smith somehow picked it up — and he wasn’t pleased, as he gestured towards the person controlling the rover. The moment left the commentators in stitches.
Rob Key said: “How he’s seen that I don’t know. I mean, it’s on the boundary at deep mid-wicket and he’s not happy … it’s a good 100 yards away I’d say. “Extraordinary.”
Urooj Mumtaz was also shocked, saying: “I have never seen that before. “One thing is for sure, Steve Smith has the best peripheral vision on the planet.”
Former Australia opener Simon Katich said that the moment would be playing on repeat in the Australia dressing rooms.
“I reckon the rest of his teammates will get a lot of humour out of that,” Katich said.
