Islamabad: Ambassador of Japan Akamatsu Shuichi this week said the Japanese government and Japan International Cooperation Agency would continue to strive to ensure supply of safe water across Pakistan.
He was speaking at the handover ceremony for the 4.094 billion yen worth of the grant aid Project for the Improvement of Water Treatment Plant and Water Distribution System in Faisalabad.
JICA Chief Representative Naoaki Miyata and Managing Director of Water and Sanitation Agency Faisalabad Aamer Aziz attended the ceremony.
As Faisalabad, the third most populous city in Pakistan, doesn’t have adequate water services, JICA provided technical cooperation from 2016 to 2019 and formulated the Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Master Plan with the target year of 2038.
The grant aid project was selected as a priority project in the master plan, according to officials. They said the grant aid project upgraded and expanded the Old Jhal Khanuana water treatment plant and developed water transmission and distribution facilities, including the pipe network, tripling the water supply.
The officials said the increased water supply helped improve water services, ultimately enhancing public health and the living environment for citizens.
