Shehbaz Sharif emphasises significant role of China in Balochistan development

Quetta: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif this week unveiled a historic package for the farmers of Balochistan, emphasizing the significant role of China in the province’s development.

Highlighting China’s pivotal role, the PM announced the solarization of agricultural tubewells in Balochistan. A formal agreement was signed between the federal and provincial governments in this regard.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, Balochistan’s governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, chief minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, and members of the provincial cabinet.

During a day-long visit to Quetta, the premier elaborated that the federal government, in collaboration with the Balochistan government, will convert approximately 28,000 agricultural tubewells in the province to solar energy.

This project, costing Pakistani Rs 55 billion, will see 70% of the funds provided by the federal government and the remaining by the Balochistan government.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti assured that the solarization of tubewells will be completed within three months.

This initiative is expected to save around Rs 90 billion annually and ensure an uninterrupted water supply to farmers.

Looking ahead, the prime minister announced plans for the solarization of one million agricultural tubewells nationwide, aiming to save Rs 3.5 billion annually.

In a significant gesture towards enhancing Balochistan’s educational prospects, a 10% quota has been allocated for Balochistan students to receive professional training in China, particularly in the agriculture sector.

Another 10% quota has been reserved for students to receive IT training under the Chinese company Huawei. This initiative aims to harness the potential of Balochistan’s educated and skilled youth for the province and the country’s development.

The PM mentioned that funds have been allocated in the federal budget for establishing Danish Schools in Balochistan.

He expressed confidence that Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, and the provincial cabinet will continue to contribute significantly to the province’s development and prosperity.
