Meloni: “We European Conservatives are the engine and protagonists of the Renaissance”

Rome: “Today may be a different moment, we are ahead of decisive European elections because for the first time the result of such elections could put an end to unnatural and counterproductive majorities. It’s time to up the ante. We European Conservatives are the engine and protagonists of the Renaissance of our continent.”

This was stated by the Prime Minister, leader of the Brothers of Italy and of the Conservatives and Reformists (Ecr) group in the European Parliament, Giorgia Meloni, in a video link on the occasion of the “Viva Europa 2024” convention in Madrid, organized by Vox together with the Ecr group.

“Dear Santiago, we started our common journey in the European Parliament in 2019. And since then, our political paths have always been very similar. From the first moment they tried to despise us. They tried to isolate us, they tried to divide us. And they ended up strengthening us,” added the prime minister, addressing the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal. For Meloni “the 2019-2024 European legislature was characterized by erroneous priorities and strategies”. “Europe is a tired, submissive and spoiled continent – ??continued the prime minister -. A continent that thought it could exchange identity for ideology, freedom for convenience, and which today inevitably pays the price for its choices. But all is not lost. When history calls, people like us don’t hold back.”

“We want and can build a different and better European Union than the current one,” underlined the prime minister. For Meloni “the European Union that we have in mind must recover the pride of its history and its identity”. “We will defend our farmers, our fishermen, our manufacturing industry, our small and medium-sized businesses from unprecedented attacks,” she said.

“We will oppose those who want to question the family as a pillar of our society, those who want to introduce gender theories into schools, those who want to promote inhumane practices such as surrogacy. Because no one will convince me that it can be called progress to allow rich men to buy the bodies of poor women, or to choose their children as if they were supermarket products. This is not progress, it is obscurantism. I am proud that the Italian Parliament is discussing, on the proposal of the Brothers of Italy, a law that wants to make surrogate motherhood a universal crime”, said the Prime Minister in a video link on the occasion of the “Viva Europa 2024” convention, in Madrid, organized by Vox together with the Ecr group.
