Islamabad: Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan Andreas Ferrarese this week showcased his culinary skills during the embassy’s celebration of ‘Italian Cuisine Week.’
Departing briefly from his diplomatic role, Ambassador Ferrarese donned an apron to share his country’s cultural heritage through a variety of authentic Italian dishes, including fish and pasta, at Zigolini’s Restaurant at the Marriott Hotel.
The initiative aimed at fostering cultural exchange through the universal language of food, transforming the restaurant into a vibrant hub of gastronomic delight.
Guests, including aspiring chefs, were treated to a culinary journey as Ambassador Ferrarese expertly prepared traditional dishes, explaining the historical significance of each ingredient. The aroma of freshly cooked pastas and savory sauces enticed guests to explore the rich tapestry of Italian cuisine.
The Italian embassy also hosted a grand reception featuring dishes like penne all’arrabbiata, piccatina funghi champignons, gnocchi al pesto, pure di patate, and arancini. These offerings, reflecting the essence of Italy, sparked conversations about the country’s diverse culinary landscape.
Ambassador Ferrarese officially announced the opening of Italian Cuisine Week during the event, stating its simultaneous celebration in Italian embassies worldwide.
He expressed the desire for UNESCO to include Italian cuisine in the intangible cultural heritage list, emphasizing the global prevalence of Italian restaurants and the accessibility of the cuisine to everyone.
