PPP believes in farmers’ empowerment: Umar Rehman Malik

Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Umar Rehman Malik said this week that the PPP believed in the empowerment of the farmers.
“The PPP has always believed in the empowerment of farmers. It has believed in improvement of agricultural production. This is needed for a reduction in the import of raw materials, greatly helping our textile industry in this time of low Forex reserves,” he posted on X.
He added: “We must do all we can to work towards a sustainable, self-sufficient, and dynamic economy. This can only be achieved by empowering value and export industries from the bottom up.”
Umar Rehman Malik said by providing tools and support so people can not only improve their own lives but in the process lift up the communities around them.
“The People’s Party has and will always stand with the people. We believe in empowering the hardworking people of Pakistan,” he maintained.
Umar Rehman Malik said that Pakistan was an agricultural economy but when the PPP had come into government in 2008, the country was importing wheat and only Rs 400 per maund were being paid to farmers. “We increased this to Rs1200,” he said, adding that after winning the upcoming elections, the PPP will provide more relief to the farmers.
Umar Rehman Malik said majority of the country’s population was living below poverty line needed social protection programmes.
He said PPP had established new hospitals and universities, besides starting the Thar coal project to solve energy crisis.
