Islamabad: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) this week called upon the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take measures to facilitate the registration of women in the electoral rolls.

Malaika Raza, General Secretary of the PPP Human Rights Cell, expressed concern about the absence of women from the electoral rolls, highlighting the significant number of women missing from them.

According to the ECP, over 10 million women lack a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and are therefore unable to vote. The ECP notes that this situation has improved compared to the previous elections when 11 million women were disenfranchised due to not having CNICs.

Malaika Raza stressed the urgency of addressing this issue and called on the ECP, the caretaker government, and all political parties to collaborate in supporting the inclusion of these women in the electoral rolls. She emphasized the need for a concrete policy that would simplify their registration and enable their active participation in the democratic process.

She pointed out that many of these women lack basic identification documents such as identity cards and even bank accounts, hindering their access to essential services and opportunities. By prioritizing the issuance of identity cards and promoting financial inclusion, it is possible to ensure that every woman’s voice is heard and counted in the upcoming elections.

Malaika Raza emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building a more inclusive society, stating that millions of women are being denied their right to vote due to bureaucratic obstacles and a lack of assistance. She called on the government, Election Commission, and political parties to collaborate in addressing this issue and ensuring that no woman is left behind.

The PPP Human Rights Cell supports measures to tackle this critical issue and urges relevant authorities to take immediate action.

Raza highlighted the importance of empowering these women by assisting them in obtaining the necessary identification documents and facilitating their registration on the electoral rolls.
