Professor Hugh Heggie meets High Commissioner Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri
Canberra: The Administrator of the Northern Territory, Professor Hugh Heggie and his partner, Ruth Jones, met with the High Commissioner for Pakistan to Australia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, and his wife, Dr Sabina Zahid, this week.
The meeting was held at Government House in Darwin and was an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the current state of trade and investment between Australia and Pakistan.
The Administrator and Ms Jones expressed their interest in promoting closer economic ties between the NT and Pakistan. They highlighted the NT’s strengths in mining, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy, and expressed their hope that Pakistan businesses would consider investing in the Territory.
The High Commissioner welcomed the Administrator and Ms Jones’ interest in promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
He said that Pakistan was keen to strengthen its economic ties with Australia and that the NT was a natural partner for Pakistan businesses.
The two sides agreed to work together to identify opportunities for trade and investment between the NT and Pakistan. They also agreed to stay in touch and to continue the dialogue on this important issue.
