Islamabad: Nepal coach sees Asia Cup as chance for players to learn from Pakistan, India Monty Desai, the head coach of the Nepal cricket team, maintained a pragmatic outlook, refraining from making bold predictions about victory Monty Desai, the head coach of the Nepal cricket team, believes that his players have a valuable learning opportunity ahead, given their placement in the same group as Pakistan and India for the Asia Cup 2023.

While talking to media in Karachi on Thursday, Desai expressed his pride in Nepal’s historic achievement of qualifying for the Asia Cup, underscoring the commendable training arrangements put in place by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“Nepal qualified for the Asia Cup, it is a historic achievement,” said Desai. “The PCB have made great arrangements for training. Karachi’s atmosphere is very good.”

“We are in the same group as Pakistan and India, it will be a great opportunity for players [to learn],” he added.

However, Desai maintained a pragmatic outlook, refraining from making bold predictions about victory. He highlighted the fact that many of Nepal’s players have only witnessed these top-level cricketers on television screens, indicating the magnitude of the occasion for them.

“I cannot say that we are going to win. Our players have only seen these top cricketers on television. Sandeep Lamichhane will be joining us on August 28,” he added.

Having arrived in Karachi on Wednesday, the Nepal cricket team has commenced their training at the National Bank Stadium. Their preparation regime includes practice matches before they head to Multan on August 27.

Pitted against Pakistan and India in Group A, Nepal is scheduled to face Pakistan on August 30 in Multan, followed by a match against India on September 4 in Sri Lanka.
