Qatar Charity delegation visits chief scholar in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Doha: A delegation from Qatar Charity (QC), including Hassan al-Nuaimi, general supervisor of the charity’s office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mohamed Washan, the director of the office, this week visited the office of the chief scholar in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Mufti Sheikh Dr Hussein Kavazovic.

The delegation was received by the deputy head of scholars, Sheikh Dr Anas Levakovic, social affairs officer Ibrahim Malanovic, and Dr Wasim Tadvi, co-ordinator of Relations with the Islamic World at the Presidency of Scholars.

During the visit, several issues related to the prospects for fruitful co-operation between QC office and the Presidency of Scholars were discussed regarding topics and programmes of common interest, including equipping a TV station within the media centre of the Islamic Sheikhdom with the latest equipment and supplies, as well as providing devices and equipment for one of the scientific research institutes.

The media centre provides cultural services aimed at spreading the tolerant teachings of Islam and preserving the civilised Islamic identity of Bosnian society. Many residents of neighboring countries who speak the Bosnian language benefit from its services, such as the Muslims of Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo, and the Bosnian communities in the diaspora, because the broadcast is also via the Internet.

Dr Levakovic praised the role of Qatar and its benevolent people in providing a helping hand to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina over the past years through fruitful and constructive coordination through various institutions, in particular the QC office in Bosnia.

Qatar has actively contributed to the implementation of many vital projects in Bosnia, foremost of which is the establishment of a modern building for the Islamic Library in Sarajevo and the restoration of the College of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo.

The Islamic Library is a historical legacy due to the manuscripts it contains in various sciences and literature in Arabic, Turkish, and Persian. QC has contributed earlier to providing modern devices and equipment that contributed to preserving these manuscripts that were subject to damage and loss.

QC office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in co-ordination with the Islamic Sheikhdom, has hitherto built a number of mosques, printed many books, sponsored a number of imams and preachers, provided full support to an Islamic school for several years, and sponsored the teaching staff of the College of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo, in addition to providing two service cars for the Islamic school and equipping and furnishing an educational hall in an Islamic school.

QC is also in continuous coordination with the Islamic Sheikhdom in all the areas in which it operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, about the implementation of in-kind aid projects such as the distribution of food baskets, heating materials, seasonal projects, and other.
