Islamabad: Prominent financial expert Umar Rehman Malik this week expressed delight over the improvement in ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“Pleased to see the developments and improving relations between Saudi and Iran. My father Senator Rehman Malik did a lot of work in his life to mend bridges between both these countries. A great step not just for the Muslim world but the world at large,” he tweeted.

He was confident that improvement in the relationship will enhance the security and stability in the Gulf region.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to resume bilateral relations in the next two months after several days of talks facilitated by the Chinese government.

Saudi Arabia also reiterated his country’s support to achieve peace in war-torn Yemen and its back to UN efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Yemen and to launch political dialogue between Yemeni rivals.

Over the past nine years, Yemen has suffered a bloody conflict between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Iran-aligned Houthi group.

According to the UN, the conflict has created one of the world’s worst man-made humanitarian crises.
