Italy earned freedom by standing strong: Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo

Rome: Italy’s senior diplomat Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo said this week that Italy had earned freedom by standing strong.

“25th of April. Italy celebrates victory in the fight against fascism and nazism and freedom from oppression. On this day of celebration our thoughts go to #Ukraine’s fight for freedom and to those around the world who are fighting the same fight. They will prevail,” he tweeted.

Liberation Day (Italian: Festa della liberazione), also known as the Anniversary of Italy’s Liberation (Anniversario della Liberazione d’Italia), Anniversary of the Resistance (Anniversario della Resistenza), or simply April 25 (25 aprile) is a national holiday in Italy that commemorates the victory of the Italian resistance movement against Nazi Germany and the Italian Social Republic, puppet state of the Nazis and rump state of the fascists, during World War II.

That is distinct from Republic Day (Festa della Repubblica), which takes place on 2 June.
