Japan Fest in Pakistan kicks off to a great start

Karachi: To commemorate the friendship between Pakistan and Japan, the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi organized “Japan Fest 2021” at the official residence of the Consul-General this week.

The festival started off in a traditional Japanese style wadaiko (Japanese drums) performance led by Deputy Consul-General ASHIDA Katsunori, followed by the speech of the Consul-General of Japan. Appreciating the interactions between Japan and Pakistan, he reminded how the two countries will be celebrating 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The speech was followed by video messages from dignitaries which included Haider Ali, Gold medalist in Tokyo Paralympics 2020, Anwar Maqsood, and Imran Ismail, the governor of Sindh. Attendees were also quizzed on Japan and winners were awarded prizes by the Consul-General.

Pakistan-Japan Literature Festival also presented an Urdu translation of the first Japanese novel Genji Monogatari. People also got to witness a live truck art demonstration where Mount Fiji was drawn. Japanese armature band Moonstone also performed at the venue to give the audience a taste of Japanese music. Sitar maestro Ustad Nafees Ahmed also wooed the audience and was joined by Mr. ASHIDA Katsunori on vocals and keyboard.

After artists from both sides of the countres performed, it was time for an amalgamated rendition of the iconic ‘Dil Dil Pakistan.’ As the evening came close to its end, the guests were treated to sushi followed by a lavish buffet featuring legacies from both countries. And that’s how Pakistan and Japan celebrated their friendship in an evening that won’t be easily forgotten.
