Karachi: Pakistan is a stakeholder and beneficiary in the gigantic multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a top aide of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the prestigious Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on CPEC Affairs Khalid Mansoor reiterated that CPEC was a win-win for the whole region.
“There’s no way Pakistan will forgo any of its benefits. Pakistan has also discussed the possibility of Afghanistan’s inclusion in CPEC with the Taliban government,”he added.
Signed in 2015, CPEC aims to connect China’s northwestern Xinjiang province to the port of Gwadar in southern Pakistan through a network of roads, railways and pipelines to transport cargo, oil and gas.
Mansoor maintained that Pakistan was more committed to CPEC than ever before as it was confident the completion of the project will bring an economic revolution for Pakistan.
He noted that the second phase of CPEC had started and all the projects will be completed within the set time frame.
Last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that as CPEC enters the second phase, there will be more Chinese agricultural technologies flowing into Pakistan.
“China-Pakistan cooperation in cultivating rice, corn, soybean, sugarcane and other crops has yielded fruitful results and played an important role in promoting development of our bilateral relations and deepening friendship between our people,” he remarked during his regular media briefing.
Earlier, addressing the launching ceremony of “Kisan (farmer) Portal” for the farmers under Pakistan Citizen’s Portal in Islamabad, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had stressed that Pakistani farmers had to learn new techniques to boost productivity like China.
Prime Minister Imran Khan mentioned that CPEC had included the agriculture sector in its umbrella and there was also a training programme. CPEC will boost the agriculture sector. Agriculture was part of CPEC’s second phase.
