A functioning airport essential for Afghanistan: Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo

Kabul: NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo has said that a functioning airport was essential for Afghanistan and for all Kabul residents.
In a tweet, he said: “Thank you to @hmohib (Afghanistan’s national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib) for the excellent visit. A functioning airport is essential for Afghanistan and for all Kabul residents. I am confident that the continued engagement by the highest Afghan authorities will make a difference.”
Earlier Afghanistan’s national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib visited the Resolute Support command situated at the Hamid Karzai International Airport as part of efforts to maintain the airport operational and ICAO-compliant.
The NSA was accompanied by the NATO Senior Civilian Representative Stefano Pontecorvo, Commander of the Combined Security Transition Command General Deedrick, Deputy NSA Rafi Fazil and the Turkish military commander at the airport.
The NSA visited the air traffic control terminal, fire and rescue units, meteorology system, airport security, radar system, airport command, radio and other airport services.
