Italy name 34-person team for Lake Placid 2023 FISU Winter World University Games

Rome: The Italian University Sports Centre (CUSI) has named 34 athletes to its team for the Lake Placid 2023 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter World University Games.

CUSI will also bring a team of 15 staff members in its delegation. The largest portion of its team are competing in Alpine skiing, with 16 athletes.

These are Benedetta Caloro, Stefano Cordone, Beatrice Costato, Davide Damanti, Elia De Zanna, Thomas Della Libera, Cecilia Fantoli, Chiara Ferracci, Goffredo Mammarella, Carlotta Marcora, Gaia Palamara, Luca Resinelli, Martina Sacchi, Luca Taranzano, Chiara Teroni and Giovanni Zazzaro.

Elisa Fava is the country’s sole snowboarder on the team, while Pietro Marinelli and Davide Oss Chemper are due to compete in short track speed skating.

The second-largest team travelling to New York State is in cross-country skiing which has eight representatives.

Maria Eugenia Boccardi, Laura Colombo, Luca Compagnoni, Valentina Maj, Riccardo Masiero, Matthias Morandini, Riccardo Munari and Elisa Sordello are part of the squad.

Leia Dozzi, Lara Gutmann, Nikolaj Memola and Pietro Papetti are the four figure skaters announced, while Daniele di Stefano, Riccardo Lorello and Federica Maffei are the three speed skaters on the team.

The Lake Placid 2023 FISU Winter World University Games are scheduled for January 12 to 22 2023.

This edition of the Games will precede Italy’s hosting of the 2025 Winter World University Games in Turin.
